Study Guide - Exam 1

Material covered: Chapters 1, 2, 3, & 8 plus items discussed in class

Format: multiple choice questions (25-50) and essay questions (3-5)

Suggested study strategy:

bulletReview the discussion questions and chapter slides that I provided in class.
bulletStudy the South America and Middle East maps.  
bulletGo through the student presentations.
bulletRead the articles.

 

Additional Potential essay questions:

Discuss three reasons why international logistics is more challenging than domestic logistics.

Discuss three reasons why a government would support international transportation and logistics.

Discuss three ways that governments provide support of the transportation and logistics industry.  

Compare and contrast the logistics strategy, infrastructure, and performance highlights of the three groups of countries discussed in class (industrial, emerging, and third world).

Identify the different types of economic cooperation and why countries get involved in cooperative efforts.

Compare and contrast inland transportation in Canada with Eastern Europe ... in the U.S. with Western Europe.

What are the five areas of culture?  How do they effect business/international logistics?  What specific examples could you give about these differences?

Be familiar with the various specific terms throughout the material: sovereignty, service privilege, cabotage, etc. in each of the sections.

Be able to identify the various types of intermodal equipment that is used in international logistics.

Remember, the discussion questions from each chapter and article content are also fair game for essay questions.
