GROUP PROJECT GUIDELINES

Overview

Your group will be required to prepare a 15 minute presentation with handouts.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TURN IN A WRITTEN PAPER!!!!  Regardless of your choice, you must get permission of your topic before you begin.

Turn-In Requirements:

bulletExecutive Summary
bulletSet of Slides

You have to choose one of two topics:

  1. Examine a international marketing blunder; or,
  2. Create an ad campaign to introduce an American product in another country.

International Marketing Blunder

This choice is to examine a real-life blunder in international marketing.  You must present a number of key points about the event:

bulletHistory - what happened
bulletProblem - why was it a blunder
bulletSolution - what should the company have done
bulletResponse - how did the company react to the problem
bulletResults - what was the overall impact of the problem
bulletLearning - what lessons should other companies learn
bulletBibliography - where did you get the info
  - minimum of four sources at least two from non-Internet sites

Notes: you may not use any blunder that was presented in class.  Also, the better the blunder, the easier it will be for you to gather information.

Ad Campaign to Introduce an American Product

This choice is to present the very basics of how would you introduce an existing American product to a foreign market.  You will need to evaluate the proper tools that will be effective in another culture.

bulletBasic - what is the product, why it should be successful in other country
bulletCulture - what is the type of people you are targeting
bulletMedia - which types of media are you going to use (be very specific)
bulletAds - brief overview of you ad(s)
bulletLegal - what laws will apply with your campaign
bulletBibliography - where did you get the info
  - minimum of four sources at least two from non-Internet sites

Notes: you may not use any ad that was presented in class.  Also, be careful that you do not perform a campaign that has been done already.

Key Elements of Presentation

Discuss the basic highlights from above. You should have a minimum of one overhead per section that cover each of the major areas. You must prepare your overheads using a presentation software package (Freelance Graphics, PowerPoint, Harvard Graphics, etc.).

Use charts, graphs, and other visual aids to support your presentation.

Be creative. Organize your presentation, practice your delivery, develop effective transitions, and plan for questions.

Final Suggestions: Get started now - this type of information requires some digging. Use LEXUS/NEXUS and ABI Inform to find current articles on the company and the industry. Use the Internet, industry guides and stock reports to find key numeric data. Get copies of annual reports and other materials from the company regarding their history, operations, and strategy. Search the Career Services Library and call the company's Human Resource department for career related information. Ask professors, Career Services, and Henderson Library personnel for help (early)!
